The beautiful Shenandoah Valley of  Virginia has always been my home. I grew up in a small rural town bordered by the Shenandoah River and in close proximity to the Allegheny Mountains. My formative years provided diverse boyhood experiences of small town life, including contacts with many fascinating local citizens and story-tellers who frequented the town sporting goods store, fire house, and the hunting cabin owned by my uncles. Hopefully I too have become a story-teller, and can let my drawings tell a story of  my observations of wildlife and scenes in and about the woods and pastureland visible from my studio and home where I live with my wife Bettie. In my portraits of the mountain people, I try not only to show the faces weathered by time but also their personalities and convey the essential spark ( or twinkle ) in their eyes. My favorite medium is a No.2 pencil on paper.
